The Colony Economic Development Corporation Receives State Award
The Colony EDC received the 2017 Economic Excellence Award from the Texas Economic Development Council for the 10th consecutive year during the TEDC Mid-Year Conference held June 13-15 in Galveston, Texas. The Colony is one of only 39 organizations statewide to earn this honor this year.
“This award recognizes a commitment to professional economic development by City administration, elected and appointed officials, and exemplary professional standards demonstrated by the Economic Development Staff,” said The Colony Mayor Joe McCourry. “We are very proud that our team has once again earned this honor, as they have clearly been extremely successful in bringing new, high quality, unique businesses to The Colony.”
As a result, The Colony has become a Texas Destination for development with unique and exciting venues like Nebraska Furniture Mart anchoring the 400-acre Grandscape, Scheels All Sports (a 300,000+ square-foot store opening in 2020) and restaurants and entertainment like Rock & Brews, Lava Cantina and Topgolf.
“Announcements regarding new additions at Grandscape occur frequently, where unique shopping, dining and attractions include Hard Eight BBQ, Heritage Pizza, Another Broken Egg and Bread Zeppelin,” added Mayor McCourry. “Coming soon are Akira Back, Andretti Indoor Karting & Games, Cigars International, Galaxy Theatres, Thirsty Lion, Twigs Bistro, Truck Yard, Walk-Ons and Windmills.”
Other leaders in their industry sectors that call The Colony home include Oceus Networks, Ceragon, Shaddock Homes, Hilti, Armor Safe and Zackat, all located in The Cascades. Businesses located in the master-planned Austin Ranch include Rave Restaurant Group, Panasonic and Quest Resource Management.
Additionally, hospitality choices within The Colony now include Residence Inn by Marriott, Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott, Holiday Inn, Hyatt Place, Staybridge Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites and many more.
“With a retail trade area that has almost tripled in 16 years to 167,361; the projects we are welcoming complement each other and build on a positive synergy and momentum that has been extremely exciting,” said Keri Samford, Executive Director of Development. “It’s an honor and very gratifying to lead The Colony’s Economic Development efforts.”
